| Participatory process in Žalec municipality identified most important sustainability challenges in the local community | |

Municipality Žalec started the Local Agenda 21 programme in 2001 in a broad participatory process with participation of experts and general public, and under a supervision of the institute Erico from Velenje. In a participatory process, where experts and general public have been included, the discussions demonstrated that drinking water quality, waste waters and flooding hazards are most important environmental problems in the mujnicipality. The workshops in 2001 also identified expensive and inefficient state administration as an obstacle to economic development.
